Chapter 16’s beginning contains various triggers so this portion will be brief. After being sexually assaulted, Adeline wrestles with being born attracted to Zade while still being terrified and traumatized. He continues to watch her at night, though there are no more text communications.

She and Daya continue to look into Gigi’s murder, and she never mentions the assault. Daya reveals that she has thought about mystery man Ronaldo, and believes it’s possible that he was involved in organized crime. She decides to look into crime families from the 40’s for any potential leads.

During their lunch the girls are interrupted by Max, who has begun overseeing the Talaverra’s operations after the death of Arch and his family. Max seems to know about Addie’s stalker. Apparently one of his men, sent to watch Addie, witnessed Daya disposing of one of Zade’s gifts following dear ole Archie’s untimely passing. Adeline does her best to convince Max it is not a stalker situation so much as an enemy of the crime family tormenting her and that she was only caught in the crosshairs of gang activity.

Our diary entry reveals John has begun drinking and openly accused Gigi of cheating in front of a family friend. She denies it and her friend angrily storms out, leading us to ponder if he believes her.

Chapter 17 brings us more of Zade’s point of view and he is a naughty boy, having replaced the cameras in Adeline’s room so he can continue watching her. Having snooped through her house he’s read her great grandmother’s diaries and is intrigued by history apparently repeating itself with Adeline. Only one small change, he has no desire to kill Adeline, rather he wishes to make her his forever. He spends time hiding in her closet until she sleeps, coming out to watch her, and leave her with his parting gift, a single red rose.

After he leaves he receives a call from his right hand man with a lead on his mission of eliminating a child trafficking ring. He’s been set up with memberships to infiltrate their clubs, and ultimately gain the trust of his prey, a man named Mark Williams.

Chapter 18 returns us to Addie and she is engaged in a taunting texting game with Zade. Trigger warnings for this chapter as well. Ultimately Addie tempts fate by pushing Zade too far and he arrives to make good on another promise to “punish” her. What begins as an assault results in dubious consent, and Adeline continuing to question her sanity after seemingly enjoying her evening with Zade.

Our diary entry reveals that great grandpa John has been drinking more, is routinely very angry, and Gigi begins sneaking away to see Ronaldo. Sera, aka Nana, pleads with her mother to reconcile with her father.

We are left still wondering:

1)Who murdered Gigi?

2) Will Addie confide in Daya about Zade?

3)Will we have a chapter taking place at Satan’s AffIr any time soon?
